Is the landlord responsible to have working smoke detectors in the house being rented in Ohio?
Is the landlord responsible to have working smoke detectors in Ohio. I moved in and realized later that there was no smoke detectors and there was a fire. Luckily no one was injured but if it would have been in the middle of the night, it could have been another story as we have no smoke detectors. Is it a law they have to provide smoke detectors. This is a 4 bedroom single family house. Thanks
I don’t see anything in the Ohio Revised Code indicating the state requires it, but the City of Columbus does and other cities may as well. Note that not all residences are required to have them (building age matters). Also, while the owner is required to provide them, it is the occupant’s duty to maintain the smoke detector.
